Description

  • Partner with Product Owners and Engineering to solve customer problems and challenge requirements.
  • Design pragmatic, cost-efficient architectures that balance speed, cost, quality, and business value.
  • Champion simple, secure, resilient, and scalable system designs that can handle peak load and graceful failures.
  • Translate complex technical decisions into clear business language for cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Review code and stay close to implementation to validate architectural assumptions.
  • Support production incidents, post-mortems, and operational reviews to improve system reliability.
  • Coach engineers and enable teams to make sound technical decisions with increasing autonomy.
  • Foster a culture of psychological safety, constructive challenge, and continuous improvement.
  • Continuously evaluate new technologies, best practices, and competitive approaches to inform architecture decisions.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, especially in backend systems.
  • Experience designing complex distributed systems using APIs, databases, message queues, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
  • Strong understanding of consistency and availability trade-offs, including synchronous vs. asynchronous communication and strict vs. eventual consistency.
  • Experience designing for failure scenarios such as network partitions, service outages, and database failures.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and building cost-efficient cloud architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization such as Docker and Kubernetes or ECS, infrastructure as code, and observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or CloudWatch.
  • Experience with secure coding practices and OWASP basics.
  • Track record of making technology decisions that improve business outcomes such as time-to-market, costs, customer experience, approval rates, or default rates.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring engineers rather than directly managing them.
  • Comfort working across Product, Credit Risk, Collections, Finance, Compliance, and Operations teams.
  • Preferred experience integrating LLMs for use cases such as chatbots, document processing, or decision support.
  • Preferred understanding of financial concepts such as transaction lifecycles, accounting, reconciliation, and settlement.
  • Preferred programming experience with Java, Kotlin, or Python, especially in the Spring ecosystem.
  • Preferred hands-on experience with AWS services such as ECS/EKS, Fargate, Aurora, DynamoDB, Lambda, RDS/Aurora, MSK, SQS/SNS, EventBridge, and S3.
  • Expat candidates must be willing to relocate to Ho Chi Minh City.
