Description

  • Design and build scalable, resilient web services in Java and/or Scala for game client needs across PC, console, and mobile.
  • Own the data model and select appropriate storage solutions such as MongoDB, DynamoDB, and Redis.
  • Design REST APIs with clear contracts, versioning, documentation, and tolerance for client-side variation.
  • Architect services for live game traffic patterns, including launch spikes, event peaks, and graceful degradation during dependency failures.
  • Build and maintain AWS infrastructure using IaC tools such as CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
  • Own CI/CD pipelines, including deployment configuration, environment promotion, and rollback capability.
  • Right-size AWS resources for cost and performance and avoid obvious inefficiencies.
  • Instrument services with logging, metrics, tracing, health checks, and alerting before production launch.
  • Monitor services in production, respond to incidents, and write post-mortems with follow-through on fixes.
  • Work directly with game client engineers to define integration contracts, debug issues, and maintain accurate API documentation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional backend/server-side engineering experience, including at least 3 years on services at live production scale.
  • Professional-level Java experience with production design, build, and operations experience.
  • Hands-on AWS ownership with experience provisioning, deploying, monitoring, and debugging infrastructure.
  • Experience making deliberate data store choices between MongoDB, DynamoDB, and Redis.
  • Real REST API design experience with PC, console, or mobile client integration.
  • End-to-end ownership mindset, including on-call participation, post-mortems, and shipping fixes.
  • Preferred: Experience designing systems for launch-day spikes using horizontal scaling, queue-based load leveling, and circuit breakers.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with platform-specific SDK constraints such as PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo NSO, or Apple/Google mobile.
  • Preferred: Experience with Kafka or SQS/SNS for event-driven communication.
  • Preferred: Kubernetes (EKS) cluster operations experience.
  • Preferred: Security-conscious engineering experience with OAuth/OIDC, rate limiting, input validation, and OWASP awareness.
