Description

  • Build and improve an event-sourced, append-only double-entry ledger and models for accounts, journals, postings, balances, holds, fees, FX, and adjustments.
  • Implement posting rules and financial invariants that prevent unauthorized value creation or loss and maintain complete audit trails.
  • Develop transaction flows for authorization, holds, capture, settlement, reversals, refunds, chargebacks, expiry, corrections, and controlled adjustments.
  • Apply idempotency, deduplication, sequencing, and concurrency controls to payment, card, custody, and blockchain events.
  • Build reconciliations across CASP, Fireblocks, blockchain, fiat, card, treasury, accounting, and internal financial-control systems.
  • Create workflows for missing or duplicate events, mismatches, unbalanced postings, suspense accounts, and controlled repairs.
  • Design event schemas, financial data contracts, versioning, replay, backfills, migrations, indexing, partitioning, retention, backups, and recovery processes.
  • Partner with finance and treasury on accounting evidence, GL exports, reserve and liquidity views, audits, and regulatory requirements.
  • Own monitoring and production support, including reconciliation service levels, incident response, root-cause analysis, and remediation.
  • Participate in technical design, code reviews, testing, staged rollouts, and knowledge sharing across the financial-core team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience, including payments, ledgers, accounting, settlement, core banking, or another high-integrity transactional system.
  • Experience building or operating a double-entry ledger, payment posting engine, settlement platform, core-banking subsystem, or comparable financial system of record.
  • Strong relational database and SQL skills, preferably with PostgreSQL or MySQL, including transaction isolation, locking, concurrency, performance, indexing, migrations, and recovery.
  • Working knowledge of journals, debits and credits, charts of accounts, posting rules, available versus settled balances, holds, reversals, adjustments, fees, FX, and reconciliation.
  • Practical experience with idempotency, transactional outbox/inbox patterns, event ordering, duplicate delivery, exactly-once-effect design, and failure recovery.
  • Experience building reconciliations that compare internal and external records, retain evidence, identify breaks, and support controlled repair.
  • Strong Java or Python experience with reliable production services and event-driven systems involving replay, schema evolution, auditability, and eventual consistency.
  • Clear technical communication with finance, product, compliance, treasury, risk, and operations stakeholders.
  • Preferred: experience with stablecoins, digital assets, custody, exchanges, blockchain settlement, Fireblocks, TigerBeetle, Modern Treasury, Mambu, Temenos, cards, acquiring, cross-border payments, treasury, FX, or regulated banking.
  • Preferred: experience with AWS Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, Step Functions, Kafka, financial data retention and disaster recovery, accounting integrations, audit evidence, or mentoring engineers.
