Description

  • Own the quality strategy, test architecture, coverage models, release gates, and risk-based prioritization for the database platform.
  • Design test strategies for replication, rebalancing, partitioning, sharding, transactions, consistency, indexing, backup and restore, and cross-datacenter replication.
  • Validate cluster behavior under production-like failures, including node loss, network partitions, clock skew, disk faults, version skew, and rolling upgrades.
  • Design and execute fault-injection tests using crashes, GDB-driven state changes, packet loss, latency injection, corrupted data, and boundary-case inputs.
  • Investigate system defects at the source-code level and provide minimal reproducible cases, suspected code locations, and root-cause analysis.
  • Build and maintain Python- and pytest-based test frameworks, custom harnesses, API tests, and end-to-end automation.
  • Improve CI/CD and shared test-farm reliability by reducing flaky tests, diagnosing noisy failures, and expanding regression coverage.
  • Integrate AI agents into testing workflows for test generation, failure triage, log and metric analysis, and defect reporting.
  • Create evaluation suites, golden datasets, and graders to measure AI-agent accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborate with QE, client, and server engineering teams on feature reviews, testability, defect resolution, and quality standards; mentor senior QEs and SDETs.

Requirements

  • 10–18 years of experience in Software Quality Engineering, SDET, or Systems Engineering, including Staff- or Principal-level technical impact.
  • Hands-on experience testing distributed databases or storage systems, preferably NoSQL platforms such as Cassandra, ScyllaDB, MongoDB, Couchbase, Redis, DynamoDB, or HBase.
  • Experience with distributed relational databases such as CockroachDB, TiDB, YugabyteDB, or Spanner-style systems is relevant.
  • Expertise testing replication, partitioning, sharding, consistency, transactions, secondary indexes, backup and restore, and cross-datacenter replication.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, including consensus, quorum reads and writes, consistency models, split-brain scenarios, clock skew, and recovery semantics.
  • Ability to read and debug server-side C, C++, Go, Rust, or Java code and trace defects to root causes.
  • Strong Python automation skills and proficiency in at least one systems programming language.
  • Experience with fault injection, GDB, chaos testing, network and disk failures, corrupted inputs, version skew, and boundary-value testing.
  • Experience across unit, integration, API, contract, end-to-end, performance, scalability, upgrade/downgrade, and soak testing, plus CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
  • Experience using AI agents in test frameworks, including workflow design, tool integration, prompt and evaluation design; Kubernetes/operator testing, cloud infrastructure, SDK compatibility, and security testing are preferred.
