Description

  • Lead architectural design and technical strategy for backend systems, microservices, and member-facing APIs.
  • Design and maintain versioned REST APIs for web and mobile applications.
  • Build, optimize, and evolve PostgreSQL data models, schemas, and indexing strategies.
  • Write clean, performant, and testable backend code primarily in Python and Django.
  • Provision, manage, and optimize GCP infrastructure using Terraform.
  • Manage containerized deployments and orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Implement asynchronous, event-driven workflows using tools such as Celery and Pub/Sub.
  • Work with BigQuery, dbt, and SQL to support low-latency access to analytical and operational data.
  • Monitor service health, define SLAs/SLOs/SLIs, and drive incident response and root-cause analysis.
  • Mentor engineers and partner with Product, Design, Data Engineering, AI, and frontend teams to deliver secure end-to-end experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree at a minimum.
  • 7+ years of professional engineering experience with a track record of leading technical projects and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Deep senior-level expertise in Python and the Django framework.
  • Strong system design skills for reliable, distributed backend services.
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience defining and managing infrastructure as code with Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience with Google BigQuery and dbt, including query optimization and application integration.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and PostgreSQL relational database architecture.
  • Deep knowledge of containerization and orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong understanding of observability, profiling, and performance tuning in production environments.
  • Excellent technical communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with AI-powered development tools such as Claude, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot is preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare or other highly regulated environments such as HIPAA or SOC2 is preferred.
  • Experience integrating AI/LLM models or working with Data Science teams to build user-facing AI features is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with asynchronous task queues and messaging brokers such as Celery, Redis, RabbitMQ, or Pub/Sub is preferred.
  • Familiarity with automation hooks and CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI is preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and able to work from a state where Vida is registered.
  • Must reside in or be able to work from the U.S.; international work is not permitted.
