Description

  • Manage and maintain PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and Athena databases on AWS to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Monitor database performance and health, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Design and implement database growth strategies to support increasing organizational demand.
  • Develop and maintain strong security controls to protect sensitive PHI data.
  • Ensure compliance with database privacy regulations and frameworks such as HIPAA and SOC2.
  • Design and implement business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline to restore anonymized production data into lower environments.
  • Partner with the security team on risk analysis and response for data infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with development, architecture, and release teams on database architecture and feature support.
  • Work with the Data Engineering team to build, maintain, and troubleshoot ETL jobs for downstream applications.
  • Support software development teams with coding practices, complex queries, and DML tuning.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in database administration.
  • BS or advanced degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Experience managing SQL and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Redshift, DynamoDB, BigQuery, MongoDB, Cassandra, and Snowflake.
  • Deep understanding of AWS database services, especially AWS RDS, Aurora, Redshift, and DynamoDB.
  • Ability to identify bottlenecks and performance problems to support query and schema optimization.
  • Experience with modern monitoring tools such as CloudWatch and Datadog, including metrics, monitoring, alerting, and dashboards.
  • Experience managing change management practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation, systems reliability, load balancing, monitoring, and logging.
  • Experience architecting for regulated environments with data privacy regulations such as GDPR and HIPAA preferred.
  • Strong scripting skills in SQL, Python, and Shell.
