Description

  • Own the technical strategy and architecture for the POS Application Platform.
  • Build and govern the platform’s core pillars, including developer experience, reliability, foundational frameworks, and squad adoption.
  • Define and enforce engineering standards across all POS device types and OEM manufacturers.
  • Functionally lead POS engineers embedded across multiple product squads.
  • Own observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident response for the POS platform.
  • Architect the onboarding, governance, and integration of new POS device types.
  • Collaborate with OEM partners and the hardware team to prepare the application layer for new devices.
  • Write and review code directly, contributing hands-on to platform engineering.
  • Build, hire, mentor, and structure the POS platform team for scale and international growth.
  • Establish and continuously improve engineering processes, tooling standards, CI/CD pipelines, and productivity metrics.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including at least 6 years leading engineering teams through growth phases.
  • Direct hands-on experience building software that runs on Point-of-Sale terminal devices at the application layer.
  • Strong working knowledge of EMV standards and payment certification processes such as PCI DSS and P2PE.
  • Deep Android engineering expertise in Kotlin and Java.
  • Experience building internal engineering platforms, shared libraries, developer tooling, or foundational frameworks.
  • Experience governing or architecting across multiple POS device types from different hardware manufacturers.
  • A current or recent role with roughly 40-60% coding time; fully non-technical managerial backgrounds are not a fit.
  • Experience building or maturing platform engineering functions, including tooling strategies and cross-squad governance.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale engineering teams and build the organizational layer beneath you.
  • Experience in a high-volume financial transactions environment; fintech background is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with terminal management systems and device observability tooling is a strong advantage.
  • Backend engineering experience in Java or Spring Boot is a strong plus.
  • Experience working directly with OEM vendors on hardware specification and integration is a bonus.
  • Exposure to C or C++ is a plus.
  • Experience only at Series A or B startups is unlikely to match the scale required.
