Description

  • Design, build, and continuously improve the Pear Assessment product and related services.
  • Develop and maintain high-performance backend services in TypeScript for the assessment platform.
  • Build intuitive React interfaces for interactive assessments, dashboards, and data visualization.
  • Enhance OpenSearch-based semantic search to support fast discovery across educational documents.
  • Optimize data pipelines and queries to deliver low-latency insights and feedback.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and data teams to translate educational needs into technical solutions.
  • Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance under high usage.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work with AWS cloud services and event-driven workflows to support the platform.
  • Integrate MongoDB and other data stores to manage large-scale assessment and engagement data.
  • Integrate AWS IoT services where applicable for real-time device interactions and data ingestion.
  • Integrate LLM/AI services to enable automated insights, content generation, and improved search relevance.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional industry experience building and delivering scalable software features in production.
  • Strong experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, or Python, including concurrency patterns, APIs, and service-oriented architecture.
  • Experience building modern React applications with TypeScript, including APIs, state management, and responsive UI components.
  • Familiarity with designing and consuming REST/WSS APIs and supporting backend services with moderate to high traffic.
  • Working knowledge of SQL or NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or PostgreSQL, including query optimization and data modeling.
  • Understanding of caching concepts such as Redis and performance optimization techniques.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and services like S3 and SQS.
  • Experience with modern frontend tooling and libraries such as React Query and component libraries.
  • Ability to build reliable, maintainable, and scalable features with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Strong ownership mindset with a focus on code quality, testing, and continuous improvement.
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment and willingness to learn and grow.
  • Motivation to build impactful products in the education space.
  • Experience with big data analytics tools such as AWS Athena, Spark, or similar query engines (preferred).
  • Experience integrating with LLM/AI APIs such as Gemini or OpenAI (preferred).
  • Experience with message queues and event-driven architectures such as SQS, Kafka, or RabbitMQ (preferred).
  • Prior experience in EdTech or building products for K-12 education (preferred).
  • Familiarity with containerization such as Docker and basic orchestration concepts (preferred).
  • Exposure to data processing or aggregation workflows for generating insights from application data (preferred).
