Description

  • Set the technical direction for the backend platform and own architecture decisions across integrations, data, messaging, and orchestration.
  • Drive cross-functional initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams and partner with AI Engineering, Product, and Integrations leadership on platform strategy and roadmap.
  • Define and evolve engineering standards for backend service design, data modeling, integration patterns, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Identify systemic reliability, scalability, and performance risks and lead the engineering response.
  • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through design reviews, technical guidance, and pairing on complex problems.
  • Represent the backend platform in technical strategy discussions with executive leadership and contribute to multi-quarter planning.
  • Build and ship production code as a hands-on senior individual contributor.
  • Develop integration platform components including inbound and outbound processors, partner APIs, webhook ingestion, CSV imports, sync logic, and retry patterns.
  • Build messaging infrastructure for email, SMS, and chat delivery pipelines with throughput, deliverability, suppression, and auditability concerns.
  • Design and operate platform services, data models, and orchestration/event-flow systems that support agent actions across CRM, calendar, and notification systems.

Requirements

  • Equivalent of 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant backend platform, integrations, or data infrastructure experience.
  • Hands-on responsibility for production systems running at scale.
  • Track record of leading cross-team or org-wide technical initiatives from conception through production.
  • Strong proficiency in Python.
  • Production experience with FastAPI, Celery, and similar async or queue-based frameworks.
  • Deep experience with Postgres, including schema design, query optimization, and production operations.
  • Experience working with large datasets and real-world data quality issues across heterogeneous source systems.
  • Experience setting engineering standards for service design, data architecture, and operational practices that other engineers adopted.
  • Experience designing and operating third-party SaaS integrations, including handling rate limits, schema drift, and partial failures.
  • Strong background in modern cloud architectures, particularly AWS.
  • Active use of modern AI coding tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, or similar.
  • Experience in B2B SaaS environments, preferred.
  • Experience integrating with MAPs, CRMs, CDPs, or DMS, preferred.
  • Production experience with Terraform, EKS, Datadog, and GitLab, preferred.
  • Experience operating messaging infrastructure such as SMTP, SMS aggregators, or chat platforms, preferred.
  • Experience building platforms consumed by AI agents or other automated systems, preferred.
  • Experience with Redshift, DynamoDB, EventBridge, and Redis, preferred.
