Description

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 10–15 software engineers across multiple experience levels.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and goal-setting conversations to support retention and career development.
  • Build a high-performing engineering culture centered on ownership, learning, accountability, and problem solving.
  • Partner with HR and recruiting to attract, hire, and onboard engineering talent.
  • Address performance issues promptly using structured frameworks and clear documentation.
  • Partner with Engineering Operations to improve flow, capacity optimization, throughput, and delivery predictability.
  • Remove blockers, manage dependencies, and ensure engineers have the support needed to execute effectively.
  • Work with Architecture, Product, and Engineering Operations to translate business priorities into delivery plans and technical direction.
  • Lead delivery of AI-powered product features and ensure the team can build and maintain AI/ML-integrated capabilities.
  • Represent engineering capacity, risks, and progress in roadmap planning and senior leadership updates.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 5 years in an engineering leadership role.
  • Demonstrated success leading and growing engineering teams, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex software projects on time and at scale in an Agile environment.
  • Experience managing cross-functional dependencies with Product and Design.
  • Experience owning engineering delivery metrics such as cycle time, deployment frequency, MTTR, and presenting them to senior leadership.
  • Experience building or contributing to a multi-year technical roadmap, including capacity planning, prioritization tradeoffs, and risk management.
  • Clear point of view on how AI is changing software development, with experience piloting, adopting, or scaling AI tooling or AI-powered features.
  • Experience working in a regulated or compliance-sensitive environment with strong security, auditability, and data privacy requirements.
  • Formal or informal experience with payments infrastructure, fund administration systems, or government disbursement platforms.
  • Professional proficiency in JavaScript and/or Python, with working knowledge of Node.js, React.js, Next.js, and NestJS.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases and query optimization using MS SQL Server and/or MySQL.
  • Knowledge of MongoDB data modeling, including use cases versus relational alternatives.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, ECS/EKS, plus cloud cost management, security groups, and IAM.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or CircleCI.
  • Strong understanding of agile principles, continuous flow methodologies, Git workflows, branching strategies, and code review standards.
  • Working knowledge of system design principles, including scalability, service decomposition, API design, caching, and fault tolerance.
  • Practical understanding of application security fundamentals, including OWASP Top 10, secrets management, encryption, and secure SDLC practices.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted developer tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor and the ability to govern and scale their use.
  • Working knowledge of AI/ML integration patterns such as LLM API integration, prompt engineering, RAG, and model evaluation.
  • Awareness of responsible AI practices, including data privacy, bias, and IP/compliance implications.
  • Preferred: Experience shipping AI-powered product features in fintech, govtech, or payments.
  • Preferred: Experience balancing verification and velocity for AI-generated code in a highly regulated environment.
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience with MS SQL Server at scale, including performance tuning in high-transaction environments.
  • Preferred: Experience partnering with a Director or VP of Architecture in a multi-director engineering organization.
