Description

  • Develop, drive, and adapt the annual and multi-year private fundraising strategy aligned with organizational goals.
  • Set annual private revenue targets in partnership with the CEO.
  • Build a diversified portfolio of philanthropic revenue across foundations, donor-advised funds, major donors, corporate philanthropy, and individual supporters.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of private grants, including funder research, prospecting, meetings, proposal development, grant management, deliverables, and reporting.
  • Maintain and deepen relationships with current funders while positioning existing grants for renewals and growth.
  • Oversee donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and retention strategies to increase giving over time.
  • Launch and grow a major gifts program, including segmentation, prospecting, and personalized cultivation plans.
  • Partner with senior leaders, the Policy team, Marketing, and Communications to shape fundable concepts, donor messaging, and philanthropic materials.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of grant specialists and strengthen fundraising systems, CRM practices, and data governance.
  • Ensure ethical fundraising standards and grant compliance best practices are followed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in fundraising, development, or external relationship building.
  • Experience working in the clean transportation, energy, and/or climate sectors.
  • Strong track record of winning major foundation funding.
  • Established relationships with relevant foundations, industry partners, and institutional funders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships over time.
  • Strong program oversight and project management experience.
  • Exceptional campaign and proposal development and submission experience with a high win rate.
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, presentation, organization, stakeholder management, and writing skills.
  • Willingness to travel 10–15%, primarily within North America but also abroad.
  • Knowledge of project budgeting and organizational revenue forecasting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
