Description

  • Partner with credit risk, legal and compliance, product managers, and other engineers to advance the Lending product.
  • Lead or contribute to projects from hypothesis through production delivery, owning output quality.
  • Build atomic, composable, API-level financial primitives that support Block's intelligence layer.
  • Design and build clean APIs with a developer-centric approach focused on uptime, latency, regulatory compliance, and cost-per-transaction.
  • Experiment with emerging approaches and share learnings to improve team capabilities.
  • Operate and manage existing Cash services.
  • Recommend improvements to team practices and broader engineering processes.
  • Help interview candidates and support external recruiting, networking, and open-source/community efforts.

Requirements

  • 5+ years working on complex systems and delivering quality software, with deep expertise in one or more technical areas.
  • An AI-first mindset and the ability to leverage AI to augment development work in complex systems.
  • Familiarity with agentic engineering.
  • Curiosity to identify flaws in complex systems and take steps to fix them.
  • Resilience in complex situations involving scale, uncertainty, and interconnected dependencies.
  • Self-directed comfort with ambiguity and willingness to publish reasoning and be wrong publicly in a transparent DRI/IC model.
  • Experience working with one or more of the listed technologies: Java, Kotlin, AWS, HTTP, JSON, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, Kafka, microservices, DynamoDB, Redis, MySQL, Aurora, Vitess, DataDog, Buildkite, Gradle, Hibernate, jOOQ, OkHttp, Jetty, JUnit, or Guice.
