Description

  • Set the technical and product direction for Babylist’s personalization domain.
  • Take ambiguous business problems from initial definition through production deployment and measure customer impact.
  • Build and maintain custom embeddings and foundational representations used across feeds, recommendations, and search.
  • Make cross-team modeling and architecture decisions, including decisions that are costly to reverse.
  • Own model orchestration, deployment, monitoring, retraining, and production reliability.
  • Define AI quality standards and build evaluations to identify incorrect model behavior before release.
  • Partner with product, design, and data teams to shape priorities and solutions.
  • Coach senior engineers on complex technical and product decisions.
  • Develop recommender systems, customer identity resolution, ranking models, and live experiments.

Requirements

  • Staff-level experience shipping production machine learning systems.
  • Experience building recommender systems or personalization products used at scale.
  • Strong Python machine learning experience with pandas, scikit-learn, XGBoost, and PyTorch.
  • Fluency across the complete ML lifecycle, including orchestration, deployment, monitoring, and retraining.
  • Experience creating custom representations or embeddings from raw data.
  • Experience defining ambiguous problem spaces, designing systems from scratch, and owning solutions end to end.
  • Knowledge of deep learning, matrix factorization, retrieval, and ranking.
  • Experience with AWS SageMaker and MLflow, or comparable ML platforms.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, influence technical direction, and coach senior engineers.
  • Ability to use AI-assisted engineering tools while maintaining ownership of outcomes.
