Description

  • Design and architect Alpaca’s proprietary brokerage and advisory services.
  • Build and maintain high-quality, high-performance platform services across frontend and backend systems.
  • Develop scalable, highly available, and robust distributed systems for financial transactions.
  • Design object-oriented data models and service-oriented architectures for long-term growth.
  • Optimize systems for low latency, high throughput, concurrency, and reliability.
  • Write production code and make critical technical decisions affecting customer experience.
  • Develop and implement Order Management Systems and other high-load financial transactional systems.
  • Collaborate within a small, multidisciplinary engineering team while taking ownership across multiple technical areas.

Requirements

  • Previous software engineering experience with trading or exchange systems, such as OMS, EMS, exchanges, market making, algorithmic trading, or quantitative trading.
  • Strong software engineering experience; senior-level experience preferred.
  • System design expertise, including object-oriented data modeling, service-oriented architecture, and system abstraction.
  • Programming experience in low- and high-level languages such as C/C++, Go, Zig, Rust, Java, Scala, or Python.
  • Experience optimizing low-latency and high-throughput systems.
  • Experience with messaging queues and message brokers.
  • Knowledge of algorithms, distributed systems, scalability, high availability, databases, concurrency control, and low-latency systems.
  • Analytical, data-oriented problem-solving skills.
  • FIX protocol knowledge preferred.
  • Experience with observability, tracing, continuous profiling, and benchmarking preferred.
