Description

  • Own database maintenance, patching, upgrades, and ongoing optimization across the production database fleet.
  • Lead performance tuning, indexing strategy, and query optimization for high-throughput systems.
  • Design and own backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery strategies for critical workloads.
  • Automate database provisioning and maintenance using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices.
  • Plan and execute complex data migrations and conversions with minimal downtime and risk.
  • Build dashboards, alerts, and monitoring for database health and performance.
  • Mentor engineers on database best practices and provide technical guidance on deployment and architecture decisions.
  • Communicate risks, issues, and next steps proactively to engineering and DevOps partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator in production environments.
  • Deep PostgreSQL expertise, including performance tuning, indexing, replication, and query optimization at scale.
  • Strong AWS experience with RDS, EC2, VPC, IAM, and S3, plus networking fundamentals for database connectivity.
  • Experience with CDC (Change Data Capture) integrations.
  • Knowledge of database security best practices, including access controls, encryption, auditing, and compliance for sensitive data.
  • Terraform experience for Infrastructure as Code, with a preference for changes reviewed in pull requests rather than made in consoles.
  • Proficiency in Python for automation and scripting.
  • Proven experience with backup/recovery and disaster recovery planning for critical systems.
  • Experience debugging distributed systems and diagnosing data-related production issues and cascading failures.
  • Advanced English proficiency required.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Redis (preferred).
  • Familiarity with observability tooling such as Datadog or equivalent (preferred).
  • Docker experience related to database deployments (preferred).
  • Experience in the payments industry (preferred).
  • Spanish proficiency (preferred).
  • Exposure to AI/MLOps data infrastructure such as model serving pipelines or feature stores (nice to have).
  • Experience supporting multi-tenant database architectures (nice to have).
  • Kubernetes exposure (nice to have).
