Description

  • Own the day-to-day reliability and operational health of Chaturbate’s PostgreSQL environment.
  • Identify and address database reliability, performance, scalability, and storage risks before they affect production.
  • Improve replication, high availability, backup, restore, and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Lead database incident response, restore service, and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Plan and execute PostgreSQL upgrades, migrations, and maintenance with minimal disruption.
  • Monitor and tune high-volume, latency-sensitive, high-write workloads, including query plans, indexing, autovacuum, checkpoints, and storage efficiency.
  • Build observability, alerting, automation, and operational runbooks with the SRE team.
  • Plan for growth in data volume, compute, storage, WAL generation, and replication requirements.
  • Review database architecture and advise on schemas, queries, migrations, scalability, and operational risks.
  • Develop PostgreSQL standards and best practices, document the environment, and mentor SRE engineers.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for critical database incidents.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience operating PostgreSQL in large-scale, business-critical production environments.
  • Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL replication, failover, backup, recovery, and high availability.
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving complex production database incidents.
  • Experience planning and executing PostgreSQL upgrades, migrations, and maintenance safely.
  • Strong understanding of PostgreSQL internals, including WAL, autovacuum, indexing, locking, query planning, and connection management.
  • Experience supporting high-volume workloads, large datasets, or rapidly growing databases.
  • Strong Linux knowledge and understanding of infrastructure impacts on database performance and reliability.
  • Ability to automate operational work using scripting, configuration management, or infrastructure tooling.
  • Experience building monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and incident-response practices.
  • Strong communication and judgment when collaborating across SRE and product engineering teams.
  • Experience with Patroni, PgBouncer, or comparable PostgreSQL technologies preferred.
  • Experience with multi-region recovery, infrastructure-as-code, modern observability platforms, consumer platforms, real-time systems, or Django preferred.

  • Base salary of $195,000–$227,500 USD, excluding additional compensation and benefits.
