Description

  • Build trusted relationships with security practitioners, researchers, maintainers, and open-source communities.
  • Represent Trail of Bits at relevant conferences and meetups, including speaking and helping revive community events.
  • Support maintainers through technical office hours, upstream contributions, and long-term relationship management.
  • Translate research and releases into advisories, writeups, reusable guidance, workshops, and hands-on sessions.
  • Publish technical deep dives, tutorials, and other content under your own name.
  • Identify conference speaking opportunities and help engineers prepare and deliver accepted talks.
  • Evaluate Trail of Bits tools against unfamiliar code and provide feedback to engineering teams.
  • Improve project adoption through runnable examples, integrations, documentation, onboarding, skills, and plugins.
  • Attract external contributors and encourage sustained participation in projects.
  • Feed community needs, ecosystem trends, and research gaps back into the firm.

Requirements

  • Typically 7+ years of hands-on cybersecurity experience, including the ability to collaborate credibly with researchers and engineers.
  • A shipped software project, such as a tool, library, integration, skill, or agent, with the ability to read unfamiliar code and contribute pull requests.
  • Practical experience building with agentic AI tooling, including skills, agents, MCP servers, harnesses, or evaluations.
  • A public body of technical work, such as talks, posts, upstream contributions, research, or documentation.
  • Strong credibility within security and developer communities.
  • Technical writing and speaking skills suitable for skeptical practitioner audiences.
  • Ability to make and defend decisions independently in ambiguous situations.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the year.
  • Experience maintaining or meaningfully contributing to open-source projects (preferred).
  • Depth in application security, blockchain and cryptography, AI/ML security, or low-level systems research; community event leadership; developer documentation; or maintainer-facing initiatives (preferred).

  • Base salary of $160,000–$200,000, plus annual performance-based bonuses.
