Description

  • Design, architect, and build scalable backend solutions and customer-facing features.
  • Maintain and improve the search stack while supporting the transition from Elasticsearch to Vertex AI Search.
  • Develop robust production code, REST and RPC APIs, and automation tests.
  • Improve functional and non-functional engineering practices, processes, and standards.
  • Participate in architecture proposals and align technical decisions across engineering.
  • Respond to production bugs, alerts, and incidents, including rotational after-hours support.
  • Investigate and resolve issues affecting multiple teams or systems.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders on project requirements and progress.
  • Share technical knowledge through documentation, blog posts, talks, and workshops.
  • Identify technology risks and opportunities and contribute to engineering decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5–10 years of experience in software development.
  • Experience developing scalable backend systems and robust production code.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and computer science fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, Go, or another strongly typed open-source language; Python is preferred.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, web services, SQL databases, and Linux environments.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Search technology experience with Elasticsearch, Vertex AI Search, Solr, Algolia, or similar platforms is advantageous.
  • Experience with microservices, Agile development, MySQL/PostgreSQL, Redis/Memcached, messaging systems, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD tools, or cloud platforms is advantageous.
  • Willingness to participate in rotational after-hours production support.
