Description

  • Design, build, and maintain backend services in Ruby within a large-scale distributed microservice architecture.
  • Contribute to backend TypeScript/Node.js work, including API design and tRPC procedures for Next.js applications.
  • Own service reliability through instrumentation, monitoring, and observability across services.
  • Collaborate with data engineers on data pipelines, ETL processes, and data flows between services.
  • Investigate and resolve production incidents and participate in on-call and runbook practices.
  • Design and evolve APIs with attention to authentication, authorization, and security best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Write thorough unit and integration tests for backend services.
  • Work independently while communicating clearly across a distributed, cross-functional team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of professional Ruby backend development experience.
  • Prior experience with Rails, Roda, Sinatra, or similar Ruby frameworks; deep Roda-specific knowledge is not required.
  • Experience operating in a distributed systems or microservice architecture.
  • Working knowledge of observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, or equivalent.
  • Experience with error tracking/monitoring tools such as Sentry or Honeybadger.
  • Hands-on experience with TypeScript and Node.js, plus practical Next.js experience for backend/API-layer work.
  • Experience with tRPC or comparable typed API frameworks.
  • Experience with AWS core services, infrastructure-as-code using AWS CDK, and containerized applications with Docker.
  • Experience designing and evolving APIs, including authentication, security, and versioning concerns.
  • Experience working in a large distributed system with dozens of services and tracing requests end-to-end across unfamiliar codebases.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably Jenkins and/or GitHub Actions; migration experience is a plus.
  • Ability to use AI coding tools effectively to speed up development, debugging, and code comprehension.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to take ownership end-to-end.
  • Ability to work 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM EEST and communicate effectively with U.S.-based teams.
  • Ukraine-based candidates only.
  • Bonus: Python experience for data tooling, scripting, or services.
  • Bonus: Experience in AdTech or digital advertising/media analytics.
  • Bonus: Experience with service migration, decomposition, or platform modernization efforts.
