Description

  • Administer and optimize an existing public cloud environment, including building, deploying, and maintaining Linux and Windows servers and services in AWS.
  • Develop and build new cloud-based systems running in a public cloud environment.
  • Lead the design and architecture of new cloud solutions with a focus on reliability, security, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Support and maintain production systems, serving as the escalation point for complex incidents and leading root cause analysis.
  • Propose automation and process improvements and work with stakeholders to deliver effective solutions.
  • Manage Puppet-controlled infrastructure and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Investigate emerging cloud technologies and assess their suitability for platform improvements.
  • Drive security best practices and cost optimisation across the cloud environment.
  • Improve the capability and efficiency of the Cloud Engineering team and the wider IT department.
  • Mentor and coach the Mid-level Cloud Engineer and other team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a cloud engineer or in a similar role.
  • Experience developing and administering an AWS environment.
  • Strong Linux server administration experience.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, and Serverless.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash and Linux shell scripts.
  • Automation experience, including familiarity with tools such as GitHub Actions or similar frameworks.
  • Experience with database technologies such as AWS RDS and similar AWS-based database services.
  • Experience administering web servers such as nginx or Apache.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Demonstrated experience designing cloud architectures and leading technical initiatives from proposal through to delivery.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to propose solutions, collaborate, and gain stakeholder buy-in.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to lead and coach others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Thorough approach to developing and testing systems with strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and communicate issues for resolution.
  • Flexible approach to new challenges and a desire to learn new technologies and methods.
  • Initiative-driven, with a desire to take on greater responsibilities.
  • Preferred: experience with Jira, AWS APIs, Node.js, JavaScript, REST/JSON web services, API testing tools such as Postman, and CI pipelines such as Jenkins, Bamboo, or AWS CodePipeline.
