Description

  • Improve customer and business outcomes through better automated decisioning using machine learning and statistical modelling.
  • Build and maintain credit risk models, with additional work on utilisation, pricing, collections, and marketing optimisation.
  • Own multiple ML applications end to end, from experiment design and data curation through deployment and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with Credit Strategy Managers, Model Validation Analysts, Backend Engineers, and Product Managers to align model work with the product roadmap.
  • Use data, methods, and tooling creatively to make model development faster and easier.
  • Apply judgement to choose the most impactful borrowing topics to work on and how to deliver them.
  • Contribute to product and credit strategy by thinking beyond models to the business, market, and customer context.
  • Work across Monzo’s borrowing products and applications, including support for expansion into new credit products and markets.

Requirements

  • Excellent SQL and Python skills.
  • Good understanding of software engineering and data engineering best practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of statistical and machine learning models, including gradient boosted trees, logistic regression, neural networks, and survival analysis.
  • Solid knowledge of statistics, including hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and bootstrap methods.
  • Experience with end-to-end model development and maintenance of ML models used for business-critical automated decisioning in a consumer-facing industry.
  • Great attention to detail while keeping the bigger picture in mind.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain complex problems clearly.
  • Ability to build mutual respect and trust with people from different backgrounds.
  • Experience in UK/EU retail lending businesses for personal or business customers is preferred.
  • Experience with ML model governance in a regulated industry is preferred.
  • Experience using modern AI tools for productivity is preferred.
  • Prior experience with Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery SQL, dbt, PyData, Vertex AI, AWS, Python microservices, or Go microservices is not required but relevant to the environment.
