Description

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain backend software processors for real-time weather data ingestion, validation, transformation, and distribution.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, data operations, product managers, and business stakeholders on processing solutions.
  • Develop new processing capabilities and enhance existing processors for new data providers, formats, business requirements, and product features.
  • Design database schemas and supporting SQL objects for backend processing applications.
  • Build software that is reliable, maintainable, testable, observable, and production-ready.
  • Work with Enterprise Database Administrators and platform teams to test, deploy, and maintain database changes.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve defects, production issues, and operational incidents.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation for software components, workflows, system changes, and procedures.
  • Revise existing software to improve functionality, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of team workflows, QA practices, documentation, and development processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience designing and developing backend services.
  • Experience developing software in Scala or Java, with exposure to functional programming concepts.
  • Experience developing and deploying applications in cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with relational databases, including schema design and SQL.
  • Experience processing XML and JSON, working with RESTful APIs, and using regular expressions.
  • Experience with event-driven, distributed, or message-based systems (preferred).
  • Experience working with weather, environmental, geospatial, or Earth science data (preferred).
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server (preferred).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced development environment (preferred).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as both a team member and an independent contributor.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and debugging skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and data processing workflows to technical and non-technical audiences.
