Description

  • Own technical direction for storage platforms with significant autonomy and accountability.
  • Work with application engineering teams and internal stakeholders from problem definition through solution delivery.
  • Design and ship high-quality, scalable, and robust storage solutions with urgency.
  • Drive high-impact storage initiatives that improve innovation, resiliency, high availability, and company-wide storage efficiency.
  • Innovate automated monitoring and control-plane systems for database clusters.
  • Build and support related services such as database proxies, snapshotting, backups, and operational tooling.
  • Partner with major cloud providers and support multiple development and testing environments.
  • Contribute to infrastructure-level data privacy and compliance efforts.
  • Support forward-looking architecture changes such as distributed database systems, AI-assisted monitoring and operations, and tiered storage.
  • Collaborate through code reviews, design discussions, delegation, and mentoring to raise engineering standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience in large-scale cloud services or application development.
  • 1+ year of hands-on experience delivering large-scale solutions with an industry-recognized database, ideally PostgreSQL.
  • 1+ year of experience building cloud-based control-plane software.
  • Experience architecting and designing production backend systems with common web technologies.
  • Experience working in a large codebase on a cross-functional team and driving alignment across teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to balance urgency with shipping high-quality, pragmatic solutions.
  • Strong ownership and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and resolve root causes.
  • Ability to scale through junior engineers via effective design, communication, delegation, standards, and code reviews.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (preferred).
  • Familiarity with distributed databases such as Yugabyte, CRDB, or TiDB (preferred).
  • Experience mentoring other software engineers (preferred).
  • Interest in solving high-impact, organization-wide problems and turning abstract challenges into concrete programs (preferred).
  • Experience with Go, Python, or Rust (preferred).
  • Experience with RDS, Postgres, Yugabyte, EC2, or selected GCP services (preferred).
  • Experience with Datadog, CloudWatch, Sentry, or Snowflake (preferred).

  • Highly market-competitive compensation.
  • Base salary range of $230,000–$242,500 USD in CA, NY, CT, and NJ.
  • Base salary range of $220,000–$232,000 USD in WA.
  • Base salary range of $211,000–$222,000 USD in OR, DE, ME, MA, MD, NH, RI, VT, DC, PA, VA, CO, TX, IL, and HI.
  • Base salary range of $192,000–$202,000 USD in all other states.
  • New hire equity grant.
