Description

  • Lead customers in applying Honeycomb and observability practices to achieve technical and business goals.
  • Partner with Customer Success Managers and Account Executives on executive- and technical-level customer conversations.
  • Advise customers on telemetry schema design, data modeling, and long-term queryability of event data.
  • Become a subject-matter expert in sampling and Honeycomb’s Refinery sampling operations.
  • Teach, coach, and mentor engineering teams and leaders on observability, SRE concepts, and instrumentation best practices.
  • Help customers establish and evolve telemetry ownership, standards, naming conventions, documentation, and attribution practices.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical and sociotechnical customer issues that span traditional support and engineering boundaries.
  • Create reusable technical content such as trainings, talks, blog posts, white papers, demos, and reference architectures.
  • Represent the voice of the customer in internal meetings with Engineering and Product Management.
  • Stay current on Honeycomb’s products and the broader observability ecosystem.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of OpenTelemetry, including its projects, components, SDKs, and ecosystem.
  • Strong intuition for telemetry data modeling, schema quality, cardinality, and long-term queryability.
  • Ability to understand application architecture and instrumentation needs well enough to guide others effectively.
  • Working knowledge of AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and deployment tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms and practices such as CircleCI or GitHub Actions.
  • Previous experience in software development or system operations, with a strong preference for experience on distributed systems at scale.
  • Fluency in at least one of Ruby, Python, Go, JavaScript, Java, or .NET.
  • Familiarity with multiple languages and/or frameworks is a strong plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for engineers and technical leadership.
  • Bonus: Previous experience in Customer Success, Technical Account Management, Sales Engineering, or Consulting.
  • Bonus: Deep understanding of distributed tracing concepts such as context propagation, sampling, and visualization.
  • Bonus: Experience helping engineering organizations define observability standards, tagging taxonomies, or telemetry governance practices.
  • Bonus: Public speaking experience, including conference talks, internal tech talks, or webinars.
