Description

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of three Associates and Coordinators across people operations.
  • Own end-to-end global payroll delivery, calendars, controls, reconciliations, providers, compliance, and bonus administration.
  • Manage the people operations ticketing system, service levels, escalations, onboarding, offboarding, transfers, and role changes.
  • Own HRIS operations, data quality, audits, reporting, workflows, automation, integrations, and the people systems roadmap.
  • Execute annual compensation cycles, salary adjustments, benefits administration, compensation analysis, and equity audits.
  • Manage mobility transactions, including payroll and entity transfers, contracts, location-based pay changes, work permits, and employer-of-record administration.
  • Serve as the primary operational contact for country HR teams and partner with Finance, IT, and other stakeholders.
  • Define operating models, service standards, controls, escalation paths, and process improvements across the function.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in People Operations, HR operations, or global payroll, including at least 2 years managing a team.
  • Direct experience running multi-country payroll and people operations, ideally across Sub-Saharan Africa and employer-of-record arrangements.
  • Experience owning an HRIS implementation, migration, or significant data-quality improvement.
  • Systems and process mindset, with demonstrated workflow automation, simplification, or elimination.
  • Working knowledge of employment and statutory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong analytical skills, advanced spreadsheet proficiency, and experience with compensation and cost modeling.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, diplomacy, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities, incomplete guidance, and competing deadlines in a remote environment.
  • Professional proficiency in English.
  • Experience in a global nonprofit, international development organization, or mission-driven company with an Africa presence preferred.
  • Familiarity with employer-of-record and contractor platforms such as Oyster or Remote preferred.
  • Ability to learn tools such as Slack, BambooHR, Jira, and Asana, and use AI-assisted tools in operations workflows.
  • Alignment with GiveDirectly’s values and demonstrated emotional intelligence, problem solving, project management, follow-through, and inclusivity.
  • Ability to work remotely with at least three hours of overlap with East Africa time and meaningful overlap with U.S. Eastern hours; travel approximately 3–4 times annually.

Benefits

  • Fully remote work arrangement with country eligibility requirements.
  • United States compensation: $114,660 base salary, 10% target bonus, estimated target compensation of $126,126+, and a $21,393 annual benefits stipend.
  • United Kingdom compensation: £77,600 base salary, 10% target bonus, estimated target compensation of £85,360+, and a £2,760 annual benefits stipend.
  • Kenya compensation: $83,820 base salary, 10% target bonus, estimated target compensation of $92,202+, and an $8,453 annual benefits stipend.
  • Benefits stipend may be used for benefits or taken as additional taxable income.
