Description

  • Administer production databases on AWS RDS for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MS SQL Server.
  • Design and maintain high-availability and disaster-recovery architectures, including replication, Multi-AZ, read replicas, failover, and backups.
  • Tune database performance through query optimization, indexing, execution plans, and parameter group adjustments.
  • Perform capacity planning, sizing, and cost optimization across the database fleet.
  • Manage schema changes and migrations safely in production environments.
  • Monitor database health using Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch, and improve alerting.
  • Lead incident response for outages, performance issues, and data integrity events.
  • Implement and enforce security controls such as encryption, access management, auditing, and secrets rotation.
  • Partner with developers on data modeling, query reviews, and access patterns.
  • Automate routine operational tasks such as backups, patching, and provisioning using infrastructure as code.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience as a DBA or database-focused engineer in production environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS RDS, ideally including Aurora.
  • Deep expertise in at least two of the following: MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MS SQL Server.
  • Advanced SQL knowledge, including query tuning, execution plans, stored procedures, and window functions.
  • Solid understanding of replication, backups, point-in-time recovery, and high-availability/disaster-recovery patterns.
  • Experience with database security controls such as IAM, encryption with KMS, TLS, and auditing.
  • Schema design and migration experience in high-availability environments.
  • Experience with ClickHouse.
  • Scripting ability in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
  • Linux fundamentals and networking basics.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code for databases such as Terraform or CloudFormation (preferred).
  • Experience with schema migration tools such as Flyway, Liquibase, or Alembic (preferred).
  • NoSQL exposure such as DynamoDB, MongoDB, Redis, or ElastiCache (preferred).
  • Data warehousing experience with Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery (preferred).
  • Experience with CDC tooling such as Debezium or AWS DMS (preferred).
  • Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Percona Toolkit, or pgBadger (preferred).
  • Experience in regulated environments such as fintech, financial services, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or DORA (preferred).
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Database Specialty, Microsoft, Oracle, or PostgreSQL (preferred).
