Description

  • Develop and implement annual and multi-year fundraising strategies to support organizational sustainability.
  • Build and manage fundraising streams from foundations, high-net-worth individuals, in-kind donations, and government and research grants.
  • Work with the CEO and Operations team to forecast long-term financial resource needs and plan accordingly.
  • Optimize CRM systems, portfolio tracking, and donor management processes with the Development Manager to support scalable prospecting and relationship management.
  • Monitor pipeline health, conversion rates, and revenue projections, and report progress to leadership and the board.
  • Research, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward high-net-worth individual and foundation prospects.
  • Create individualized cultivation plans using briefings, meetings, events, and personalized communications.
  • Lead grant prospecting, writing, review, and refinement of proposals, concept notes, and reports.
  • Partner with Communications and research teams to translate scientific work into compelling funder-facing narratives.
  • Lead small in-person fundraising and stewardship events and manage follow-up activities.
  • Supervise and develop a small fundraising team and contribute as a member of the leadership team.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of development or fundraising experience in a nonprofit, university, or research-oriented organization.
  • Proven track record of raising $10M+ annually.
  • Demonstrated success building and executing fundraising strategies for rapidly scaling organizations.
  • Deep experience leading high-value individual giving campaigns and diversified fundraising portfolios.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills and comfort engaging senior donors and board members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with CRM and fundraising tools, along with data-driven donor analytics.
  • Ability to work independently while juggling multiple priorities with strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Access to and comfort working with high-net-worth individuals, especially in technology and financial sectors.
  • Preferred experience in research-driven organizations, science, technology, conservation, or related mission areas.
  • Preferred existing network of philanthropic contacts interested in science, environment, or transformative technology.
  • Preferred experience using AI tools to accelerate work processes.
  • Preferred event management experience.
  • Willingness to work ideally West Coast U.S. hours and occasionally attend meetings outside normal working hours.
  • Willingness to travel internationally less than 20% for events and team gatherings.
