Description

  • Build and maintain data infrastructure that processes petabytes of data across millions of users.
  • Write clean, well-tested code for data ingestion, transformation, and serving systems.
  • Own projects end to end, from design through deployment and production support.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product teams to deliver insights and solutions.
  • Apply 80/20 thinking to simplify requirements and deliver the right solution at the right time.
  • Mentor teammates through code reviews, RFCs, and shared technical knowledge.
  • Work on systems that support Discord's next-generation Data Platform.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with strong programming skills in Python, Java, Rust, Go, or similar.
  • Hands-on experience building or operating data infrastructure such as pipelines, streaming systems, orchestration, or data warehousing at scale.
  • Experience with tools such as BigQuery, Kafka, Spark, Flink, Airflow, or Dagster, or similar technologies.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex, multi-phase projects autonomously.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, including working with cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to write clear technical documents and drive alignment on technical decisions.
  • Growth mindset and willingness to learn from failures and improve.
  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy compliance, or cost optimization in large-scale data environments is a plus.
  • Passion for Discord and gaming is a bonus.
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area; relocation assistance may be available.

  • US base salary range of $196,000 to $245,000.
