Description

  • Own architecture, development, testing, deployment, documentation, and production support for PHP web applications.
  • Lead front-end implementation and direction for responsive, accessible, high-performing customer experiences.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools daily and help define effective, responsible team workflows and guardrails.
  • Design and optimize database queries and schema interactions across SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
  • Set engineering standards through code review, mentorship, testing practices, and technical documentation.
  • Improve system reliability, observability, alerting, and incident response for mission-critical applications.
  • Reduce technical debt by simplifying and modernizing legacy components.
  • Break down large initiatives into deliverable work and communicate progress, blockers, and dependencies to leadership.
  • Partner with Product, QA, and Engineering leadership to deliver scalable, user-focused features.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience with ecommerce or high-traffic web applications.
  • Deep hands-on experience with PHP, including production experience with Symfony and/or Laravel.
  • Strong front-end skills with JavaScript and CSS, plus knowledge of HTTP, browser behavior, performance, and accessibility.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and SQL, including query optimization and schema design.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining production systems with end-to-end ownership.
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding tools and the ability to mentor others on their use.
  • Experience with testing practices, Git workflows, and CI/CD.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
  • Preferred: experience scaling AI-assisted development workflows, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, GCP or AWS, Webpack or Laravel Mix, Composer or npm, Blade or Twig, RabbitMQ or AMQP, observability tooling, and legacy codebase modernization.
