Description

  • Own architecture, development, testing, deployment, documentation, and production support for PHP ecommerce web applications.
  • Lead front-end development direction using JavaScript and CSS to deliver responsive, accessible, high-performing experiences.
  • Use and improve AI-assisted development workflows, including daily use of AI tools and team guidance on safe, effective practices.
  • Design and optimize the data layer across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and related services.
  • Establish engineering standards through code review, mentorship, testing practices, and technical documentation.
  • Improve system reliability, observability, alerting, and incident response for customer-facing systems.
  • Simplify legacy components and reduce technical debt to improve long-term efficiency.
  • Break down large initiatives into deliverable work and communicate progress, risks, and dependencies to leadership.
  • Partner with Product, QA, and Engineering leadership to ship scalable, user-focused features.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience with ecommerce or high-traffic web applications.
  • Deep hands-on PHP expertise with production experience in Symfony and/or Laravel.
  • Strong front-end skills with JavaScript and CSS, plus understanding of HTTP, browser behavior, performance, and accessibility.
  • Strong relational database and SQL knowledge, including query optimization and schema design.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining production systems with end-to-end ownership.
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding tools for development, with ability to mentor others on their use.
  • Experience with unit/integration testing, Git workflows, and CI/CD.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentorship skills.
  • Preferred: experience defining or scaling AI-assisted development workflows across a team.
  • Preferred: Python experience for supporting services.
  • Preferred: experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS.
  • Preferred: familiarity with Webpack/Laravel Mix, Composer, npm, Blade, and Twig.
  • Preferred: experience with event-driven or message-based architectures such as RabbitMQ/AMQP.
  • Preferred: experience improving observability and monitoring, including logging, dashboards, and tracing.
  • Preferred: experience modernizing or incrementally refactoring legacy codebases.
