Description

  • Design and build new features for the banking platform to support Block’s products and services.
  • Partner with engineering teams across Block to onboard their products to Square Financial Services.
  • Lead the technical design, execution, and delivery of large-scale banking features and primitives.
  • Drive architectural decisions and infrastructure improvements to make systems more robust and scalable.
  • Build systems that handle highly sensitive customer data while meeting security and compliance standards.
  • Prioritize correctness and fault tolerance in system design to support safe innovation at speed.
  • Ensure critical services remain operational, remediate incidents, and implement durable fixes.
  • Mentor teammates and help raise engineering standards across the team.
  • Use AI tools and an AI-first approach to improve development efficiency and the engineering lifecycle.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of software development experience or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of experience leading large-scale features and delivery projects.
  • Hands-on experience building software products or services in the cloud.
  • Track record of building software that is easy to observe and operate.
  • Strong customer empathy and a focus on shipping software that improves users’ lives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; this is a remote-forward team.
  • Experience using AI tools and frameworks to improve developer productivity, code quality, and system efficiency.
  • Background in financial infrastructure, especially ledgers or system-of-record systems requiring high consistency and correctness.
  • Proficiency building products and services on AWS.
  • Proficiency with Kotlin.
  • Experience building public APIs.
  • Experience with Kotlin/Java, Go, Temporal.io, Kubernetes, AWS Fargate, ECS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Kafka, microservices, Protocol Buffers, gRPC, HTTP, OpenAPI, TypeScript, or React is a plus.
