Description

  • Build, refactor, and maintain robust AI features across disciplines.
  • Prototype and implement AI behaviors in collaboration with the design team.
  • Implement enemies, NPCs, and other AI-controlled characters.
  • Integrate developed AI systems with gameplay engineering efforts.
  • Optimize perception and decision-making systems to improve AI performance.
  • Work on navigation and pathfinding systems and debug complex AI issues.
  • Integrate and maintain AI middleware across multiple platforms.
  • Partner with design and content teams to deliver high-quality gameplay experiences.
  • Drive engineering quality with a focus on performance, maintainability, extensibility, and production readiness.
  • Establish Unreal Engine 5 engineering best practices, including code review, debugging, profiling, and technical planning.
  • Collaborate with technical leadership to assess risks, define implementation strategies, and align execution with project goals.
  • Communicate technical constraints, trade-offs, dependencies, and plans to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional game development experience.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership through project ownership, mentorship, or setting engineering standards.
  • Strong professional experience with C++ and Unreal Engine.
  • Experience with gameplay architecture, runtime systems, debugging, and optimization.
  • Deep experience building and maintaining responsive, scalable, designer-friendly gameplay systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Blueprints and AI decision-making tools such as Unreal Behavior Trees and Utility AI.
  • Confidence using navigation and pathfinding systems.
  • Comfort working across system boundaries and collaborating with multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to balance short-term production needs with long-term technical health.
  • Preferred experience with Unreal Engine 5 systems such as Blackboards, StateTree, and EQS.
  • Preferred familiarity with Perforce, Jenkins, Unreal Build System, and Unreal Gauntlet.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and reside in Canada.
  • Pacific-time overlap required for this remote-friendly role.
