Description

  • Own integration with sports feed data providers.
  • Build and maintain WebSocket clients for real-time odds and event data.
  • Ingest and normalize data from REST APIs and streaming feeds.
  • Map data between providers, including teams, players, events, and markets.
  • Troubleshoot data quality issues and discrepancies across feeds.
  • Design and maintain Kafka topics, consumers, and producer architecture.
  • Monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot high-volume real-time data pipelines and consumer lag.
  • Manage data flow between microservices and support Redis-based caching and performance optimization.
  • Maintain and extend the Market Management System, including product ops tooling in Retool.
  • Implement market settlement logic, configuration management, and live market suspension or unsuspension logic.
  • Improve platform reliability by optimizing memory usage, application stability, monitoring, observability, and production debugging.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience with production systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Kotlin or Java, with Kotlin used primarily at Betr.
  • Deep understanding of Kafka topics, consumers, producers, and streaming.
  • Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architecture.
  • SQL and database optimization skills, especially with MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Ability to debug complex issues across multiple services.
  • Strong communication skills for cross-team collaboration.
  • Experience with PHP, preferred due to legacy systems.
  • WebSocket implementation experience, preferred.
  • Experience with Redis for caching at scale, preferred.
  • Experience with real-time data processing and normalization, preferred.
  • Experience with Vert.x or similar reactive frameworks, preferred.
  • Sports betting or gaming industry experience, preferred.
  • DevOps or infrastructure experience with AWS, Docker, or Kubernetes, preferred.
  • Experience with RabbitMQ, preferred.
  • Experience with Retool or similar internal tooling platforms, preferred.
  • Must currently reside in Canada and be legally authorized to work there.
