Description

  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain highly resilient and scalable systems critical to customer success.
  • Lead complex projects spanning multiple teams to improve functionality and reliability.
  • Design solutions that anticipate future needs and evaluate technical tradeoffs.
  • Communicate technical direction and guide the team through execution while driving quality practices.
  • Improve engineering productivity by acting as a force multiplier for the team.
  • Diagnose performance bottlenecks and implement optimizations.
  • Collaborate with other Toast R&D teams to deliver high-visibility product experiences.
  • Use AI tools to improve development workflow, velocity, and innovation across the team.

Requirements

  • Experience presenting complex project plans and helping teams execute them.
  • Experience shipping complex, mission-critical production services.
  • Ownership of complex, high-scale systems and experience scaling distributed systems.
  • Respectful, empathetic, and humble working style.
  • Growth mindset focused on self-improvement and improving the functional area.
  • Recognized as a leader in the functional area and trusted to make technical decisions with short- and long-term business impact.
  • Experience with backend systems in Kotlin, Java, or similar technologies (preferred based on the team stack).
  • Experience with cloud platforms and microservice architectures (preferred based on the team stack).

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $168,000 to $269,000 USD.
  • Additional cash compensation may include overtime and bonus/commissions, if eligible.
