Description

  • Drive brand advertiser sales revenue through client-direct and agency relationships.
  • Manage a book of business with quarterly and annual revenue targets.
  • Identify and develop new ad partners that fit The Athletic’s audience.
  • Navigate partner relationships to the appropriate decision-makers.
  • Drive advertising revenue across web, mobile, audio, newsletters, and social media.
  • Define strategies and guide account teams on RFP responses and client opportunities.
  • Provide program, content, and media plan guidance for sales opportunities.
  • Share partner insights, sales learnings, new ad products, and opportunities with the team.
  • Maintain and nurture relationships with existing ad partners to support renewals and ongoing business.
  • Represent The Athletic brand professionally.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of digital ad sales experience.
  • Experience across web/app, social media, and podcast sales, ideally in combination.
  • Established agency and client-direct relationships that can be leveraged immediately.
  • Experience improving existing sales tools, communication, and processes.
  • Ability to work independently as an individual contributor and as a team leader.
  • Strong motivation to meet ambitious targets.
  • Self-starter who can get work done independently.
  • Excellent communication skills over email, phone, and in person.
  • Comfort working autonomously while contributing to a team.
  • Passion for the sales process and the advertising industry.
