Description

  • Architect, build, and evolve backend APIs, services, event-driven workflows, queues, background jobs, data models, caching strategies, and integrations.
  • Own complex backend initiatives from discovery and design through implementation, rollout, production support, and long-term maintenance.
  • Lead ambiguous technical initiatives by clarifying problems, assessing risks, making tradeoffs, and driving execution.
  • Improve system reliability, scalability, performance, observability, testing, and operational quality.
  • Debug complex production issues across application code, databases, caches, queues, jobs, and observability data.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Engineering, Infrastructure, Platform, Data, and Support teams on backend solutions and delivery plans.
  • Mentor engineers, provide constructive feedback, influence cross-team alignment, and communicate technical tradeoffs to nontechnical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Strong Node.js expertise building and maintaining production backend systems.
  • Staff-level experience building and operating high-scale APIs, services, distributed systems, or shared product capabilities.
  • Strong command of backend technologies such as Node, TypeScript, Elixir, Ruby/Rails, Java, Go, Python, or similar.
  • Strong SQL and relational database expertise, including indexing, query optimization, migrations, profiling, data modeling, transactions, and performance tuning.
  • Practical experience with service-oriented and event-driven architectures, queues, background jobs, webhooks, and Redis or similar caching tools.
  • Working knowledge of deployments, containers, CI/CD, cloud services, networking, observability, and operational debugging.
  • Experience using logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, alerts, and incident reviews to improve production reliability.
  • Ability to lead through influence, mentor engineers, communicate tradeoffs, and connect technical decisions to customer and business impact.
  • Experience partnering with infrastructure, platform, SRE, DevOps, or data teams is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Elasticsearch, BigQuery, analytics pipelines, search infrastructure, high-volume data processing, or responsible AI-assisted engineering workflows is preferred.
