Description

  • Own the technical strategy for Identity’s core systems, including architecture decisions and build-vs-buy-vs-partner tradeoffs.
  • Lead the development of new platform capabilities such as the Identity Store, Networked Identity platform, and advanced fraud detection systems.
  • Drive the evolution from a hosted-UI product to a headless-API and embedded-components platform.
  • Partner with ML, product, legal, and engineering leaders across Stripe to align roadmap, resourcing, and product abstractions.
  • Set engineering standards across backend, ML, mobile, and front-end systems and lead design reviews.
  • Mentor senior engineers and raise the technical bar for a high-stakes, externally facing product.
  • Own reliability, scalability, and security for the systems you design.
  • Define observability and alerting to detect model drift and fraud pattern shifts early.
  • Contribute technical judgment and leadership in a role focused on architecture and long-term system design.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in a strategic technical leadership role.
  • Experience leading engineering teams working on API design, abstractions, frameworks, or client libraries.
  • Proven track record of delivering pragmatic solutions that accelerate business growth.
  • Ability to move comfortably between high-level strategy discussions and detailed coding.
  • High autonomy and willingness to take on significant responsibility.
  • Clear, persuasive written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, determination, and a growth mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and contribute to a high level of psychological safety.
  • Experience with a range of software languages and frameworks, including Ruby, TypeScript, Python, Scala, Java, Go, SQL, React, GraphQL, Kafka, Protobuf, Airflow, Bazel, Temporal, Mongo, Splunk, and Prometheus.
  • Preferred: experience with identity verification, fraud detection, or trust and safety systems at scale.
  • Preferred: familiarity with production ML systems, including model serving, training pipelines, observability, drift detection, and feedback loops.
  • Preferred: experience building platform products for both internal teams and external developers.
  • Preferred: prior 0-1 product build experience from blank page to production system.
  • Preferred: exposure to Stripe’s broader stack, including Ruby, TypeScript, Python, Kafka, Temporal, Protobuf, React, and distributed data stores.
  • Preferred: experience making confident technical decisions in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
