Description

  • Own engineering execution and technical direction for the Conversation Product Area, including the Agent Engine, evaluation infrastructure, Search platform, AI Voice platform, and consumer agentic features.
  • Co-lead the Product Area in a paired product/engineering model, sharing planning, prioritization, and external representation with the product counterpart.
  • Manage a team of about 70 engineers through a layer of Senior Engineering Managers and Staff/Principal engineers.
  • Develop, coach, and hold accountable the engineering management layer across the product area’s roughly nine teams.
  • Drive migration of Spotify’s existing agentic infrastructure onto the shared Agent Engine in partnership with product teams across the company.
  • Set the technical strategy for Spotify’s first-party voice investment, including build-versus-buy decisions and delivery timelines.
  • Define and enforce the technical bar for evaluation, including feature-specific judges, datasets, and data-driven product decisions.
  • Set engineering quality standards for AI-assisted development, including code review discipline and test coverage.
  • Participate in broader leadership planning around capacity management, project prioritization, communication principles, and engineering culture.
  • Represent the Conversation Product Area’s engineering perspective in company-wide architecture and steering committee discussions.

Requirements

  • Deep technical background with the ability to evaluate architecture proposals and make tradeoff decisions.
  • Experience leading large engineering organizations through platform consolidations, migrations, or major platform evolution.
  • Experience with at least two of: LLM-based agent systems and orchestration, evaluation/eval-infrastructure design, large-scale retrieval or search systems, or speech/voice ML systems and production voice infrastructure.
  • Experience managing managers, not just individual contributors.
  • Track record of building strong, adaptable teams that can handle restructuring and shifting priorities without losing momentum.
  • Ability to work closely with senior architects, product leadership, and cross-functional partners.
  • Comfort making technically critical decisions in a highly visible leadership environment.
  • Willingness to work from the North Americas or EMEA, with overlap in Eastern North America or Central European time zones.
  • Preferred: experience with applied ML research and infrastructure at scale.
  • Preferred: experience with code quality and testing practices in teams using AI-assisted development.
