Description

  • Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain a multidisciplinary engineering organization across software, data, machine learning, and robotics.
  • Define the technical vision, architecture, and multi-year roadmap for the See & Scout platform.
  • Oversee the data and machine learning lifecycle, including telemetry and imagery ingestion, processing, feature engineering, training, deployment, monitoring, and improvement.
  • Own software delivery, scalable infrastructure, reliable deployments, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with product, agronomy, operations, systems engineering, robotics, machine learning, and program management teams.
  • Build platforms supporting large-scale data management, cloud processing, edge computing, and the long-term Individual Plant vision.
  • Lead architecture reviews, design discussions, and technical decision-making while balancing long-term investments with near-term delivery.
  • Translate grower and customer needs into scalable capabilities that generate actionable agricultural insights.
  • Align stakeholders across Blue River and John Deere and drive adoption of shared platform capabilities.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, machine learning, robotics, or related disciplines.
  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience at the Director or equivalent senior level.
  • Proven success building and scaling multidisciplinary engineering organizations, including hiring and developing engineering leaders.
  • Experience leading teams through rapid growth, organizational change, and ambiguity.
  • Deep experience with large-scale data platforms, machine learning infrastructure, or cloud-native distributed systems.
  • Experience architecting production data and ML platforms spanning ingestion, storage, processing, feature engineering, training, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience delivering ML systems under real-world constraints such as noisy data, edge deployment, and limited connectivity.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures and distributed systems, with ability to lead technical strategy and architecture reviews.
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally, influencing executives, and balancing long-term platform investments with near-term product delivery.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, robotics, electrical engineering, data science, or a related technical field; experience in robotics, autonomy, computer vision, AI, agriculture, industrial automation, MLOps, DataOps, or sensor-driven systems is preferred.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $213,000–$378,000 per year.
  • Eligibility for an annual performance bonus and competitive benefits package.
  • Remote work within the United States with onsite attendance in Santa Clara, California, 1–2 times per quarter.
