Description

  • Serve as the database architecture and performance subject-matter expert for complex technical challenges.
  • Set the technical approach for scalable, real-time data pipelines and database solutions.
  • Lead cross-functional database projects from design through delivery, anticipating upstream and downstream impacts.
  • Partner with Product Management, Engineering, and Site Reliability leaders to shape technical strategy.
  • Review code and database changes for systemic risk, security, and performance, and drive technical-debt reduction.
  • Mentor engineers and promote sound engineering discipline across the organization.
  • Guide adoption of Agile, CI/CD, DevOps, and relevant emerging technologies.
  • Monitor database health and performance using Splunk, Datadog, and Grafana to identify and address risks before incidents occur.

Requirements

  • Advanced experience with database systems and the ability to independently resolve ambiguous, unfamiliar technical problems.
  • 7+ years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server experience in a production environment.
  • Deep expertise in logical and physical data modeling, including schema design, normalization, partitioning, data relationships, and indexing strategy for OLTP workloads.
  • Advanced performance-tuning skills, including T-SQL and stored procedure optimization, execution-plan analysis, query tuning, and index optimization.
  • Experience managing and troubleshooting multi-terabyte SQL Server databases, tables with billions of rows, and sustained throughput exceeding 100,000 transactions per second.
  • Ability to diagnose production capacity and contention issues, including lock/latch contention, TempDB performance, and transaction management.
  • Expertise in database security practices, including encryption, access controls, and auditing.
  • Experience designing for horizontal and vertical scalability and anticipating data-growth risks.
  • Strong knowledge of high-availability systems, modern development practices, Agile methodologies, CI/CD, and DevOps principles.
  • Experience with NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB, and cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS/Aurora or MongoDB Atlas (preferred).
