Description

  • Lead design and implementation of critical AI product initiatives on edge devices.
  • Develop tactical AI solutions and drive longer-term research and strategic initiatives.
  • Build and optimize ML model performance for edge compute constraints.
  • Work with petabyte-scale customer data (text, transactions, diagnostics, sensor, camera, and location) to develop models and features.
  • Partner across business units, product, firmware, and full-stack teams to prototype new AI experiences and deliver core product features and services.
  • Stay current with industry and academic research and adopt novel technologies appropriate for Samsara’s needs.
  • Champion and embed Samsara’s cultural principles and mentor/coach ML Engineers to raise team capability and delivery quality.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer.
  • Proven experience optimizing ML models and systems for edge compute constraints.
  • Proficient with Spark, Ray, or a similar distributed data-processing framework.
  • Proficient coding in Python (or similar) and in C++ or Rust.
  • Strong functional knowledge of the iterative machine learning product development process.
  • Experience developing and shipping production code at large scale.
  • Ability to distill informal or ambiguous customer and business requirements into clear problem definitions.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with technical peers and leadership.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring ML Engineers.
  • This is a remote position open to candidates residing in Canada, requires travel up to 5% of the time, and relocation assistance will not be provided.
  • (Preferred) Proficiency in self-serving with data for experiments and model training at scale.
  • (Preferred) Established record of high-impact AI deliveries and deep knowledge in state-of-the-art computer vision and multi-modal models.

Benefits

  • Annual base salary range (CAD): $170,400 — $234,300, plus bonus/variable pay and restricted stock unit (RSU) awards for eligible roles.
  • Total compensation includes base salary + bonus/variable + RSUs with potential annual RSU refresh awards for top performers.
