Description

Develop firmware that runs on millions of deployed devices.
Evaluate and select hardware components for new products.
Bring up new hardware platforms and sensors from first power-on through validation.
Build systems to gather sensor data and detect meaningful events.
Design peripheral drivers, secure bootloaders, firmware update mechanisms, and core power and connectivity layers.
Optimize power usage for battery-powered sensors and gateways.
Collaborate with product, full-stack, mobile, and quality engineers to deliver usable device data.
Set technical standards through designs, reviews, and mentoring at the Staff level.
Help shape how Samsara works and deliver iteratively as the company scales globally.

Requirements

8+ years building firmware for resource-constrained systems that shipped to customers.
Strong fluency in C.
Substantial bare-metal and RTOS experience, such as Zephyr or FreeRTOS.
Experience bringing up new boards and debugging unproven hardware.
Experience with low-level interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, and ADC.
Ability to use lab tools such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, or RF spectrum analyzers.
Experience leading work across hardware, firmware, cloud, and quality from concept to shipped product.
Ability to drive consensus across teams and make cross-layer tradeoffs intentionally.
Clear written communication through design docs, review comments, and post-mortems.
Comfort iterating quickly with automated testing and high code quality.
Use of AI as part of everyday workflow is preferred.
BLE expertise at the PHY level is a plus.
Cellular IoT experience, including LTE-M or NB-IoT modem integration and carrier certification, is a plus.
Experience securing embedded systems end to end is a plus.
Experience with OTA updates and fleet-scale firmware rollout is a plus.
Embedded Linux experience with Yocto or Buildroot is a plus.
CAN and J1939 experience on commercial vehicles is a plus.
Python and Bash tooling experience plus hardware-in-the-loop test automation is a plus.
Factory-floor experience and familiarity with mass production and QA are a plus.

Annual base salary of $162,400 to $290,000 USD.
