Description

  • Operate across the full machine learning lifecycle, from problem framing and data preparation through modeling, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and on-call support.
  • Design scalable machine learning pipelines and production systems for content understanding models and signals.
  • Champion responsible AI practices, including bias, safety, and explainability, in production models.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to machine learning engineers and software engineers working on ML in ACU.
  • Lead design reviews, help set technical standards, and improve the team’s modeling and systems practices.
  • Develop evaluation systems and quality monitoring systems for content understanding signals using modern LM-judge approaches.
  • Define and maintain operational metrics, including SLOs, alerts, and dashboards for coverage, latency, precision/recall, and cost.
  • Build content understanding capabilities for commercial conversations such as reviews, recommendations, comparisons, Q&A, sentiment, stance, product entities, and product categories.
  • Operationalize content understanding models and signals to power contextual ads, shopping ads, auto-targeting, new formats, and insights products.
  • Drive modern ML and LLM adoption by deciding when to prompt, fine-tune, or distill models and leading at least one major distillation effort to replace external APIs with in-house models.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant machine learning engineering experience delivering production ML systems at scale, ideally in content understanding or ads.
  • Senior-level technical leadership experience, including contributing to architecture decisions, standards, and design reviews.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to PMs, data scientists, and engineering teams in ambiguous cross-team settings.
  • Experience building and shipping NLP, language, or content understanding models to production, such as classifiers, encoders, sequence models, or session models.
  • Demonstrated business impact from shipped ML systems, such as CTR or ROAS uplift or safety improvements.
  • Preferred: practical experience using LLMs in production for labeling, evaluation, or distillation, including managing quality, cost, and latency trade-offs.
  • Preferred: experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar frameworks, plus production-quality Python code and ideally one statically typed language such as Go, Java, or C++.
  • Preferred: experience owning training, evaluation, and deployment code end to end.
  • Preferred: experience designing ML systems and pipelines, including offline training, batch or streaming feature pipelines, online serving, monitoring, and experimentation.
  • Preferred: experience with commercial or intent modeling and high-traffic production surfaces.
