Description

  • Support all services owned by the Database Engineering team through a 24x7 on-call rotation.
  • Define and contribute to the technical vision for database engineering, including maintenance and cloud migration of relational and non-relational databases.
  • Design high availability and disaster recovery solutions for database architecture.
  • Drive initiatives in platform architecture, database partitioning, sharding, and database footprint evolution to support business growth.
  • Automate the lifecycle of AWS Aurora instances and keep automation at the center of database design.
  • Collaborate with engineers across teams to execute short- and long-term technical plans.
  • Perform root cause analysis, remediation, and documentation to reduce and prevent incidents.
  • Write clear design documents and communicate technical decisions and trade-offs to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to monitoring and alerting practices using tools such as Datadog.
  • Mentor junior engineers and help establish team standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer.
  • Bachelor's degree, or 7+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with cloud-native databases, preferably AWS, including Aurora, MySQL, and Postgres.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB or MongoDB.
  • Experience with cloud-based high availability, disaster recovery, replication, and failover.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and automation/orchestration tools such as Terraform and AWS Step Functions.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, job runners, and deployment automation.
  • Strong understanding of database administration, including internals, query tuning, indexing, and performance metrics.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Experience with Linux commands and shell scripting.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools, with Datadog preferred.
  • Strong ownership, accountability, and proactive communication.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Experience with logical/physical migrations and blue-green switchovers, preferred.
  • Experience with database fleet management, preferred.
  • AI tooling fluency, preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of Java, preferred.
  • Experience in payments or FinTech, preferred.
  • Experience with ProxySQL and/or RDS Proxy, preferred.
