Description

  • Design and build APIs and backend services for experimentation and recommendation/personalization systems.
  • Develop high-throughput data pipelines, low-latency serving services, feature infrastructure, and monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Work with AI coding tools as a core part of the development workflow to create specs, generate code and tests, verify results, and review outputs.
  • Define and document AI-native engineering practices and publish playbooks for broader engineering adoption.
  • Build across the backend stack to deliver reliable, performant experiences for tens of millions of users.
  • Collaborate with product managers and data teams to solve complex user problems with scalable engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, code reviews, technical standards, and continuous improvement of team processes.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and incident response.
  • Mentor teammates and help evolve the team’s AI-native engineering practices.
  • Support performance, reliability, and accessibility for the features you own.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of backend software engineering experience.
  • Strong proficiency with Java and Spring Boot.
  • Experience with Apache Kafka or similar distributed streaming platforms.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts, including consistency, fault tolerance, replication, and data durability.
  • Comfortable working with cloud infrastructure, with AWS preferred, and containerized deployments.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience prompting, evaluating, and building with LLMs.
  • Experience using agentic workflows and the research-plan-implement cycle without outsourcing critical thinking to agents.
  • Experience building or operating experimentation, A/B testing, or feature-flagging systems is preferred.
  • Experience supporting recommendation, personalization, or ML-serving systems, including feature stores, online/offline pipelines, or low-latency model serving, is preferred.
  • Background in stream processing frameworks such as Kafka Streams or Flink is preferred.
  • Experience with schema registries and schema evolution strategies is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Confluent Platform or Confluent Cloud is preferred.
  • Understanding of CI/CD patterns, GitHub Actions, and artifact management tools such as Maven and Nexus is preferred.
  • Experience with observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, or DataDog is preferred.
