Description

  • Design and ship per-merchant payment volume forecasting systems, including time-series decomposition and uncertainty estimation.
  • Build and maintain fraud and anomaly detection across the payment stack with tiered alerting tied to merchant risk profiles.
  • Own the end-to-end merchant segmentation system using hybrid rule-based and data-driven approaches.
  • Instrument deployed models with drift detection, retraining triggers, and evaluation pipelines in Vertex AI.
  • Develop automation tooling such as Airflow DAGs, pipeline scaffolding, and operational support tooling.
  • Collaborate on product and strategic thinking related to ML-driven business outcomes.
  • Monitor model performance in production and close the loop between model outputs and business impact.
  • Design systems for batch-first data infrastructure and ensure they are reliable and maintainable.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as an ML engineer in a production environment.
  • Strong Python skills and comfort using Spark for large-scale data processing.
  • Experience with time-series modeling, including decomposition, forecasting, and anomaly detection.
  • Solid understanding of the ML lifecycle as an end-to-end discipline.
  • Ability to work deliberately with batch infrastructure.
  • High ownership mentality and a proactive approach to identifying and fixing problems.
  • Ability to identify gaps in data-driven business processes and propose solutions.
  • Familiarity with Vertex AI, including custom training jobs, model registry, pipelines, and monitoring, is a strong plus.
  • Experience in payments, fintech, or another domain with label quality, distribution shift, and operational constraints is a strong plus.
  • Exposure to African market dynamics is a strong plus.
  • n8n or similar automation/workflow tooling experience is a strong plus.
  • The role places more emphasis on thinking quality than on credentials or certifications.
