Description

  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, and software engineers to support user experience, accessibility, and development feasibility across websites and digital platforms.
  • Design and implement solutions for presenting data and content across websites, mobile apps, and other platforms.
  • Maintain and apply JoVE’s brand standards across the website, supporting digital spaces, and third-party platforms.
  • Stay current with web development standards, changes, and design trends.
  • Contribute to engineering excellence, including automated unit testing.
  • Work with stakeholders and developers to design, implement, and maintain a reusable codebase and coding standards.
  • Debug software components, identify defects, and support remediation.
  • Assist in automating deployments to development and other environments.
  • Explain complex technical issues to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Triage and resolve incidents and help lead incident investigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years of experience building scalable, data-driven backend systems and APIs.
  • Strong proficiency in server-side programming, especially Node.js; PHP is an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of system design, data architecture, and microservices or modular monoliths.
  • Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and integrating third-party services and external SDKs.
  • Familiarity with event-driven systems, asynchronous processing, and message queues such as Kafka, SNS/SQS, or RabbitMQ.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis, including query optimization and complex data modeling.
  • Solid experience with cloud-native architecture using AWS or equivalent platforms.
  • Understanding of software design principles such as SOLID and DRY, including SaaS and multi-tenancy application development.
  • Experience working in Agile Scrum environments with tools such as JIRA or Rally.
  • Experience in a Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery model, including GitHub and CI pipeline automation tools.
