Description

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services that process financial transactions across 20+ countries.
  • Write clean, testable, production-quality code in Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript and participate in design and code reviews.
  • Build and consume RESTful and GraphQL APIs and design inter-service communication using gRPC, message queues, and event-driven architectures.
  • Design and optimize PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis data models and schemas for performance, correctness, and scale.
  • Own backend features end to end, from scoping and technical design through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
  • Implement security best practices across distributed services, including authentication, authorization, input validation, and data protection.
  • Integrate LLM APIs such as OpenAI or Anthropic into backend services for product features and ensure the integrations are reliable and cost-efficient.
  • Build safe pipelines for AI-generated outputs, including validation, fallback handling, and graceful degradation when AI services fail.
  • Instrument services with logging, tracing, and metrics to provide operational visibility.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, respond to incidents, and contribute to post-incident reviews and CI/CD improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, compliance, and data teams across regions and time zones, contributing through documentation and async reviews.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience building and operating production systems.
  • Professional fluency in English for daily written and spoken collaboration with global teams.
  • Professional fluency in Spanish or Portuguese for collaboration with LATAM teammates, customers, and partners.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one backend language: Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript.
  • Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven backend systems.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases, with PostgreSQL preferred, including schema design, query optimization, and data modeling.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate third-party APIs reliably in production, including error handling, retries, and observability.
  • Experience working on globally distributed teams across time zones and regions.
  • Comfort using AI tools in everyday engineering work, including integrating LLM outputs and using AI coding assistants fluently.
  • Experience in fintech, financial services, payments, or a regulated industry is a strong plus.
  • Experience with ledger systems, payment rails, or financial compliance such as KYC/AML or PCI-DSS is a strong plus.
  • Prior experience at a startup or high-growth scale-up is preferred.
  • Experience with multi-currency systems or cross-border payment processing is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar message queue systems is preferred.
  • Global work experience across multiple countries and regulatory environments is preferred.
  • Fluency in both Spanish and Portuguese is an additional asset.
