Description

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services that process financial transactions across 20+ countries.
  • Write clean, testable, production-quality code in Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript and participate in design and code reviews.
  • Build and consume RESTful and GraphQL APIs and design service communication using gRPC, message queues, and event-driven architectures.
  • Design and optimize relational and non-relational database schemas for correctness, performance, and scale.
  • Own backend features end-to-end from scoping and technical design through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
  • Implement security best practices including authentication, authorization, input validation, and data protection.
  • Integrate LLM APIs into production backend features such as spend categorization, document parsing, and natural language workflows.
  • Build safe AI-output pipelines with validation, fallback handling, and graceful degradation when AI services fail or return low-confidence results.
  • Instrument services with logging, distributed tracing, and metrics to ensure operational visibility.
  • Participate in on-call, respond to incidents, and contribute to post-incident reviews and CI/CD improvements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience building and operating production systems.
  • Fluent in English for daily work with global teams.
  • Fluent in Spanish or Portuguese for collaboration with LATAM teammates, customers, and partners.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one backend language: Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript.
  • Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven backend systems.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and data modeling.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate third-party APIs reliably in production with error handling, retry logic, and observability.
  • Comfortable using AI tools in everyday engineering work, including LLM API integrations and AI coding assistants.
  • Experience working on globally distributed teams across time zones and regions.
  • Preferred: experience in fintech, financial services, payments, or a regulated industry such as KYC/AML or PCI-DSS.
  • Preferred: experience with multi-currency systems, cross-border payments, Kafka or RabbitMQ, and event-driven architecture.
  • Preferred: prior startup or high-growth scale-up experience working in ambiguity.
  • Preferred: global work experience across multiple countries and regulatory environments.
  • Preferred: fluency in both Spanish and Portuguese.
