Description

  • Lead the design, architecture, and delivery of scalable services across the shopper lifecycle, including onboarding, eligibility, work evaluation, earnings, ratings, quality, recognition, safety, and retention.
  • Set technical direction for domain migrations and platform modernization by defining patterns, interfaces, and standards.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science to shape roadmaps, define success metrics, and iterate on activation, engagement, and retention improvements.
  • Build internal AI tools and agentic automations to improve development, testing, and operations productivity.
  • Drive cross-functional programs with dependencies across engineering and business teams to deliver work under tight timelines.
  • Improve operational excellence through observability, incident response, SLA/SLO management, and performance tuning.
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, documentation, and pair programming.
  • Collaborate with teams across Logistics, Identity & Fraud, Transaction Platform, Mobile Foundations, Operations, Legal, Trust & Safety, CRM, Learning, and the Shopper Community.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale.
  • 3+ years architecting and owning distributed systems with high availability and low latency, such as microservices, event-driven architectures, streaming, or queues.
  • Proficiency in at least two of Go, Java, Kotlin, or Python.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, SQL or NoSQL databases, Redis, and Kafka or Pub/Sub.
  • 2+ years leading cross-functional technical initiatives with multiple teams and external dependencies under tight deadlines.
  • Hands-on experience integrating AI into the development lifecycle with measurable productivity or quality improvements.
  • Proven experience partnering with Product, Design, and Data Science to define requirements and ship user-facing features.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and improving team practices through design reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Preferred: experience collaborating with Legal and Compliance on projects affected by labor or marketplace regulations.
  • Preferred: experience applying AI in product features for personalization, ranking, trust and safety, or support automation.
  • Preferred: vendor management experience, including evaluating partners and integrating third-party platforms or SDKs.
  • Preferred: mobile app or mobile-first product experience, including iOS or Android client-backend APIs, experimentation frameworks, and release cycles.
  • Preferred: background in marketplaces, gig economy, logistics, or fintech/payments.

Benefits

  • Base pay range of $196,000 to $207,000 USD for Canadian-based candidates, depending on permanent work location and experience.
  • Eligible for a new hire equity grant.
  • Eligible for annual refresh grants.
